Apply For A Grant
A detailed proposal, outlining the program or service for which the agency is seeking aid, should be sent, along with a brief history of the organization and where future funding for the project will be sought. Please include the following as addenda:
- Evidence of federal tax exemption status issued by the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c) (3)
- Budget for the project and annual budget for the organization
- List of the Board of Directors
- Audited financial statement, if possible
The Foundation will not consider the following for funding: Organizations which are not eligible for tax-deductible support; political organizations or groups whose prime purpose is to influence legislation; public agencies; grants for reducing an operating deficit or to liquidate a debt; or testimonial dinners and similar benefit programs involving purchase of tickets.
Since the Foundation's asset size is limited, funding will be given to areas that the grant committee feels can make the greatest impact and where the need is most critical. Those activities, at this time, shall be limited to projects within the state of Illinois. As a general rule, projects submitted for consideration should be limited to a budget size of $5,000 or less, though unusual, one-time requests may be reviewed on an individual basis. If appropriate, a personal interview may be requested.
The deadline for grant requests is July 31 annually.

Grant Award Notification
The Grant Committee (Trustees) will award grants at their September meeting. Notification of their decisions will follow within several days.
For those projects underwritten by the Foundation, we request, but do not require, an informal follow-up report to be submitted during the first half of the next calendar year for which the funding has been granted, particularly those in the Chicago area, to discuss current and future projects.
